time flies when you're being a mum

Time for Mum tagged with 'birchbox'

if you’re anything like me, you find it difficult to even find time to have a wash, there’s always something more pressing. Here I’m hoping to encourage myself and you to put yourself first a bit more!

Caudalie Divine Oil

26 Jun, 2014

Another Birchbox post for you! Sorry if this is getting annoying but these boxes are getting better each month. The June Birchbox is a very interesting mix, with a focus on fewer, more expensive products. There is one product that REALLY stands out as being amazing is the Caudalie* Divine Oil.

Caudalie Divine Oil - review and vlog, video blog about this amazing beauty product for you body, face, hair and nails! http://mumsdays.com/caudalie-divine-oil/

I absolutely love it and here’s why…

Caudalie Divine Oil Vlog

I’m new to the world of beauty and I basically signed up for Birchbox in the hope it would make me more of a woman – I would learn about beauty ‘stuff’ and actually wash my face from time to time. The reason I really love the Caudalie Divine Oil is because I suffer from particularly dry skin and this oil makes my skin feel like I imagine those really well turned out Mum’s feel. What I’m saying is I feel like a woman when I wear this! I smell nice (amazing actually) and my skin feels lovely.

Birch says…

“This dry oil hydrates parched skin and disappears in seconds without any residual stickiness or oiliness. And the scent is truly divine, with fresh notes of Moroccan and Bulgarian rose, grapefruit, vanilla, and the subtlest floral undertones.”

The smell lasts on your skin all day too. You can basically use it anywhere; your hair, face (sparingly), body and nails – and, as I said, it’s already got rid of a nasty case of damaged toenail (they were peeling, not attractive!) in just a week.

This is 100% unsponsored, I just wanted to share with you my new find in my journey to becoming more knowledgeable about beauty! You can get a 50ml bottle from as little as £18 or a 100ml bottle for £27 (I’m getting the latter when my little bottle runs out!).

Have you tried Caudalie Divine Oil? Do you think you would give it a try now? Tell me more!

*Thanks to this video, I was able to pronounce Caudalie properly!

Birchbox UK – Vlog

It's Vlog Time

19 May, 2014

A little while ago I lauded Birchbox UK as, well, awesome and recommended it as a Mother’s Day Gift (or Birthday, Christmas, Anniversary, there’s always an excuse!). Anyway, last week I was seriously wracking my brain as to what I could Vlog about. As a reminder, my May Challenge was to do my first Vlog and for those of you who don’t know what that is, instead of typing merrily away, hiding behind a computer screen (very much my comfort zone!) it where you talk. On camera! Yep, terrifying.

The more I thought about it, the shitter the ideas I was coming up with were (although, thank you to Abi Jay who made a great suggestion over on the Mums’ Days Facebook Wall!…it will be the subject of my very next Vlog, Abi). But then, as if sent from above, my Birchbox landed on the doormat. I took it as a sign and while I have no affiliation with Birchbox UK (I wish!), I decided to use the grand opening of May’s Birchbox to ease me into my first Video Blog. The theory being that I could get used to being in front of the camera without too much pressure on what I’m actually saying.

Birchbox UK's May Box! See the unveiling here: http://www.mumsdays.com/birchbox-uk-vlog/ #Vlog #birchboxUK

Last Wednesday I filmed it, did a bit of playing around with iMovie, such as editing and adding a few bits of text. Far from pro but here is my first Vlog… Birchbox UK’s May Box from the comfort of the sofa in our bedroom (where the light is best!).

Weeeeell, you’ve got to start somewhere! I actually, dare I say it, quite enjoyed it. Just the simple act of chatting about some of my post was enough to get me thinking of lots of new ideas that would work as a Vlog. Fingers crossed it comes across OK though!

Let me know what you think of Birchbox UK and my first Vlog, and if you have any ideas or suggestions, I’d love to hear them!

I love hearing from you so do comment below or email me: mumsdays@gmail.com

This month’s Birchbox UK was curated in association with Harper’s Bazaar, hence the beautiful box, and you can find more details about each of the products here. Oh, and as I mentioned at the end of the Vlog this post was in no way sponsored. If you’d like to join Birchbox, though, send me an email (see above).

25 Mar, 2014

I thought I’d tell you about my little bit of luxury that arrives every month…my Birchbox. It might be a handy little post just before Mother’s Day for you to point your husband to. Yes, it’s £12.95 a month (all in) but that comes out monthly and really you can’t put a price on being a good mother. You’re welcome.

I made the decision to get a Birchbox back in the summer because I know nothing about beauty products and never buy them. I live on Christmas and Birthday presents, so this was purely for educational purposes. (!)

Each month, a box arrives in the post. I wait until Reuben is in bed and I consume all the literature and see what I’ve got. It’s sort of like Christmas or a really good magazine that isn’t too long and has lots of pictures and free stuff attached! I tell you, it’s made for mums. Of this one anyway.

Some months are better than others but it depends what you’re interested in – I really like the skin care products and it’s always exciting to get a bit of make up (lipstick or eye liner as opposed to primer!!) but nonetheless, I love to see what I’ve got and try everything.

This is what arrived this month…

Perfume, hand cream, body oil, eye make up keepy oner, pour refiner, and a massive stick of rock!

Not my favourite month, but I love the variety and the quality of the items they send. And the beauty really is in the whole process; beautiful box arrives, read all the accompanying stuff, this month written by Lulu Guinness, and then work out what you’ve got. There’s a leaflet that tells you what you have and how to use it.

And, the genius part of their business model is their online stuff – tutorials for how to use the products (and other stuff), general news, photo competitions and prizes every  month encouraging you to spread the word, and I’ve heard Pinterest experts praising Birchbox for their efforts! Quite clever really. And when all is done the bag comes in handy for all sorts of things (for tooth brushes when they’re staying with Grandma and Grandad, and for my nail vanishes!) and the box is great for regifting or an art project (I didn’t do this myself)…

Do you subscribe to a monthly box like Birchbox? What’s your one like?!

*Small print – this isn’t sponsored or affiliate, I’m just talking about something I like. But if you do want to sign up, email me (mumsdays@gmail.com) as we’ll both get money if I intro you. Win=win!
