I’ve mentioned a few times recently how we’ve been taking part in a Family Fitness (#familyfitness) campaign with Argos. This is officially the BEST gig we’ve ever had. Especially if you’re Gabby. We were able to chose from a selection of outdoor equipment like these trampolines. The conversation went like this…
“Gabby would you mind wearing a fitness tracker for the next week or so in exchange for a 10 foot trampoline?”
“Are we getting a trampoline – yeeeeeeessssssssssssss!”
“But this is work so you’ll have to wear a special bracelet for a while, is that OK?”
“Of course it is! We’re getting a trampoline…” and she ran off with her arms in the air.
It’s pretty awesome to be a blogger kid at times. And I love the premise behind the whole campaign, encouraging people to get out and enjoy fitness as a family!
All Gabby and I had to do was keep track of our daily activities, be it swimming, bouncing, biking or walking, and our mood before and after the activity, and wear a fitness tracker. We chose the Misfit fitness trackers because they’re easy to clip on (so gets around the issue of little people with small wrists – but actually the strap did fit Gabby anyway) and you can shop the whole range of fitness trackers here at Argos. The tracker would monitor our activity (number of steps over the course of the day) and also our quality of sleep. The rest was up to us, we just had to be active and have fun together!
Here’s what we got up to…
Family Fitness – our activities
1. Bouncing
2. Playing in the park
3. Walking in the woods
4. Walking at Castles
5. Biking
6. And more bouncing!
7. We also went swimming (but that doesn’t lend so nicely for a photo), played catch at 5:30am…
8. And did some action bubble blowing!
The results
It was a fab project and so interesting to see the data afterwards, not least my quality of sleep!! In my post How to sleep to the Max, I mentioned how much Reuben had been getting up during the night. Actually, despite the broken nights, I think I’ve been getting a good amount of sleep – between 7 and 9 and half hours sleep!! And it was great to see that Gabby was getting on average 10 hours. She is officially sleeping more than the toddler!
It was also interesting to see the coloration between our most active days and sleep. For example, on the day we went walking in the woods, Gabby did over 16,000 steps and slept for nearly 11 hours. Not jealous at all!
We have sent our data back over to Argos with the other bloggers who were taking part and we’ll find out in June what the results were. So watch this space!
What Family fitness plans do you have for the May Half Term holidays? Do you have a favourite activity that you like to do as a family?
I’d love to hear all about your activities and if you find your kids sleep better after a day of fun outside! Please do leave me a comment below.

That looks awesome. I wear an UP band by Jawbone and it def. motivates me to walk more. I aim for 10,000 steps a day and 8 hours sleep a night. I almost always hit my steps and my sleep has been getting better. It also gives me an opportunity to track s’s sleep by keeping an eye on how many times it shows night wakings on my band (my wakings that is). That trampoline looks like such fun!!
The bit about tracking your little ones’ sleep – I found that fascinating!! It makes me feel more justified when I’m up and down to say “look! – you can see how much I was up and down in the night!”
thanks Natasha xx
You always come across as such an active family so this looks like the perfect gig for you. And yep, it rocks to be a blogger kid at times! x
Smoke and mirrors Donna 😉 No we do try but sometimes we need that extra push to actually do it as family! xx
Gorgeous post! And how amazing does that trampoline look?! Really must get Elsie more active – anything to help her (And me) sleep! 😉 xxx
Sounds amazing honey. I want to be Gabby! 11 hours! wow! Great post xxxx
This looks like so much fun! Part of my goal for the week was to do an outdoor activity the weekend- we’re hoping to walk to a ruined stately home near us but with both my kids I’ll today (Thursday) in not sure they will be up to it by then!
Wow, you did a lot! I think a fitness tracker is a fab idea – would definitely help motivate me to do more exercise if I had something guilt tripping me at the end of the day :)#TheList

It was lovely to see your photos and i would love to hear about your results.
We love to go places where the kids have total free reign to run and play. We walk to school each day but it is always restricted because of the road, so woods and beaches where the boys can just run are our favourite places. sometimes they don’t want to do it but once they get there they have a whale of a time,
Forgot #TheList
Really interesting. And yay to the trampoline! Note to self: must get out more! X
Great tips! We’re big fans of walking on our grand days out! We’d love to get a trampoline too! Thanks for sharing – good luck with your fitness challenge x
Such a great campaign and so important. I hope it inspires families to get fit this summer and get outside 🙂

What a great campaign from Argos! Good for them for targeting fitness in families – showing our children that being active is an important but normal part of life is crucial. Fab post honey – I wonder what the results will be? #thelist
This looks great! I would love to analyse my little ones sleep. I’m convinced they don’t get enough during the night. They’re such light sleepers!
This sounds AMAZING! I’d love to try one of the fitness trackers, although fear it might just tell me how much more sleep I need at the moment. Gorgeous pics. #thelist
Great activity Hannah fitness is so so important, I make sure we all get lots of exercise it is especially important for Jack as he suffers with Diabetes so exercise is vital for his long term health x
That little trike looks awesome and what kid (or big kid) doesn’t like a go on the trampoline!
I think that trampoline will get a lot of use and mummy and daddy’s dinner parties! #thelist
wow Hannah, great post! First up yes to trampoline jumping which also does wonders for the old pelvic floor 😉 seriously though the kids must be made up! I’m actually considering getting some kind of monitor to record my sleep patterns I think they are seriously shocking! You lot are doing alright! Very very interested to hear the results xx
Looks like you had a great time and enjoyed it. We don’t have toddlers but are mindful of taking exercise and do make an effort, it definitely helps the 12 yo sleep x
Knowing you’re tracking your activity can be a great motivator – I got a FitBit recently and have found myself walking more to make sure I reach my goals. Monitoring the sleep is interesting, too! Interested to read the full results xx #TheList
What a brilliant project to be a part of! I really want a fitness tracker because the one I was using stopped working. Given that I run a fitness linky/group I really need to be more accountable!xx #thelist
Sounds like a great excuse to be active! The sleep thing is definitely a draw too it has to be said. #thelist X
This sounds great – so much fun and good for you all too. The relationship with sleep is really interesting and the pictures are gorgeous! It is always sunny where you are??!? xo
Family fitness is vital, and love all the activities you do with your family. I strongly believe we need to lead great fitness & health examples to our kids. Well done you xxx and thanks for linking again #FitnessTuesday
It’s so great to encourage kids to keep healthy and active, my children all do different activities so they each have something that is theirs that they love (we do tae kwon do, swimming, gymnastics, rugby and football) and they see myself & my husband out and keeping active & fit too – a very important life lesson!
Yay – what fun. We love our trampoline… I have to concentrate on my pelvic floor for that onew though #FitnessTuesday
looks like you had lots of fun and so much exercise! The kids are usually not that hard to convince… it’s mainly the parents 😉 I know that from my own experience! We love to go swimming and I think as soon as my son walks properly it will be hard to stop him! Very interesting to measure the whole family’s activity! Must try that! #FitnessTuesday
Wow, well done. You are such an active family. I think my journal would be much less exciting. Btw, I love your expression on the trampoline! 🙂 #fitnesstuesday
Trampolineeeeee! And bouncing look great fun! And it’s true after an active day sleep is so much better for it – hope there’s lots more fun and bouncing to come 🙂 #fitnesstuesdays
This is great. I love how simple ideas like this can really work by just making you aware how every little bit adds up and it can be FUN. Look forward to seeing the results. #FitnessTuesday
Great to see children outdoors and exercising! The trampoline is a great way to do this. have you ever considered a sunken trampoline they are such a great way to hide a trampoline in the garden!
