Just a quick update on pregnancy stretch marks…I’m 33 weeks pregnant tomorrow and so far, amazingly, I’ve not got any stretch marks. On the other hand my other, pre pregnancy stretch marks (probably from growing too quickly as a teenager) that I’d never really noticed before, are more obvious. What’s the opposite saying to ‘every cloud has a silver lining’?
I’m applying moisturising cream every time I pass the bottle (the massaging of your belly is supposed to be effective for women who got stretch marks during adolescence) and am battling on with my anti-stretch mark diet. The other day I was walking down the cereal aisle and was (sadly) delighted when I came across some ground flax seeds!
Ground flaxseeds from Linwoods
“Wahoo,” I hear you cry! Or probably more likely, what’s so exciting about this?
Well, I’ll tell you. Flax seeds are the best source of Essential Fatty Acids (according to WHFoods.org and PamRotella.com) and Essential Fatty Acids are one of the best ways to prevent pregnancy stretch marks (according to my juice guru, Jay Kordich).
I had been eating non-ground flax seeds (on almost everything) but I was pretty sure because they are slippery little things they were just going straight through so I’d been thinking I should get some ground ones to maximise absorption. There is a downside, however. The packet recommends 2 heaped desert spoons a day. You can add it to anything according to the packet, from cereal to pasta. Unfortunately, where non-ground flax seeds are pretty inoffensive, the ground stuff tastes a wee bit dubious on most things…
Despite all that, it really is worth (I hope!) sticking with it – so the best things I’ve found to put my spoonfuls on have been breakfasty things. Porridge, cereal (like oatabixs or alpen NOT froasties – tasted yuk!) and smoothies.
So it’s a good reason to make yourself a Juice Master’s ‘clear skin elixir’: juice 2 apples, 1 handful of spinach, 1/4 cucumber, 1 stick celery. Then blitz in a blender with 1/2 avocado, some ice and the ground flax seeds. It’s bleeding delicious!!
