The film is available to buy from today!
If you could have dinner with any writer (at a restaurant – cooking for these people would be too stressful!), who would it be? At the top of my list would have to be the uber prolific and insanely talented duo that is Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler, of The Gruffallo fame and Stick Man, which is released on DVD today.
Their collaborative projects are just spellbinding and generations of kids are growing up enchanted by their beautiful and imaginative creations.
Stick Man DVD
The animated movies of The Gruffalo, The Gruffalo’s Child and Room on the Broom (which have collectively won a cacophony of awards) are firm favourites in this house (- so well made. If I ever write a kids book these are the only people who will be allowed to touch it!).
When I discovered that Stick Man had been given the Hollywood treatment and was the Christmas Day special…well, I was really looking forward to it!!
And it didn’t disappoint. Stars appear to have been tripping over themselves to be involved, featuring the voices of Martin Freeman, Jennifer Saunders and Rob Brydon to name a few.
The story starts with a family of sticks, Stick Man, Stick Lady Love and their 3 stick kids, as they enjoy their life in and around the Family Tree in the park where they live.
One morning Stick Man goes out for a morning run and gets mistaken for an actual stick. He gets taken by different people and animals further and further away from the Family Tree. Actually, it’s a bit emotional and the ending gets me every time. But for a 3 year old boy it’s literally fantastic!
Given how much I loved it, when we were invited to take part in a home prescreening of the DVD, for which we would be sent the DVD and a bundle of Stick Man goodies, including a beautifully published hard back book, I bit their hands off!
So last night, we lit a fire, did all the jigsaws and played with Stick Man whilst waiting for poor Mike to get the DVD to stream from Mike’s computer to the TV.
It didn’t work so Reuben sat like a king in his Dad’s office watching Stick Man again, while I blubbed in the corner – the reuniting of Stick Man and Stick Lady Love could rival any great Shakespearian love affair!
Did you see Stick Man over Christmas?
I’d love to hear what you thought of it in the comments below. Or come and join the conversation over on the Mums’ Days Facebook Wall!
