time flies when you're being a mum

19 Sep, 2014

Welcome back to another week of #TheList, which is a fun linky that I am hosting with my lovely friend, Aby, from You Baby Me Mummy (do hop over to see Aby’s list and say hello there too).

Aby and I have decided to feature 3 of our favourite posts from the previous week’s Linky as a little thank you and shout out for being awesome. My favourites from last week were…

Headspace Perspective’s Advice for Neonatal Mummies (Leigh is doing wonderful things with her blog)

Let Why Lead’s 42 Ways to Make Your Kids Feel Absolutely Loved (brilliant list, which made me get a little something in my eye! I think it’s extra important to remember these when you have a step-child)

Happy Healthy Mumma’s Apple Cider Vinegar (You are not going to believe how good for you it is – and for so many reasons!)

On to my list!

Real life

We think we’ve found a house!!! But now begins the bit I hate…finding something you love but not necessarily getting to have it. The owners are in a kind of limbo due to a bank in Portugal going bust. So, we might have to wait. Patience is not a virtue I own.

Blog Life

My main focus this week has been on the future, what I want my blog to be or become. I’m slightly concerned about this news after my buddy Zaz told me she couldn’t click onto my site due to an Adult Content Warning…has anyone else noticed a dip in their traffic? I publish a lot of birth stories (which is mentioned in the post above as something that is getting blocked) and have recently covered the controversial subject of abortion. If this is the reason grown adults can’t read this import information, I’m going to be annoyed!

Inspiration

I’ve heard of Sofawned before but for some reason I haven’t spent much time there – so I had a good gander yesterday (love it!) and then had an amusing conversation about season mugs that “aren’t just for Christmas” with Desiree on twitter (little bit star struck!). Her post about Halloween Mugs is brilliant, I think I’ll do a UK based one over the weekend!

From patience to being annoyed to mugs. That’s my list!

Your Turn! Linky and Rules

The List is your opportunity to show off any list or bullet style posts you’ve written, either in the week or from your archive, so the community can show it some love. This could be anything from 100 ways to cook an egg to the 30 best family days out to 5 steps to perfect eyebrows, the list goes on (pardon the pun!). It’s totally up to you, the post just needs to be in a list or bullet point format.

Oh and here are the rules for joining in!

  1. You can link up to 3 posts per week! Be sure to paste The List Badge on each post you would like to link (code below – paste it into the HTML option of your blogging platform)
  2. Comment on this post to say hi!
  3. Comment on at least 2 other links – share the love man, it’s what makes this community great!
  4. It would also be amazing if you could share your post and the linky party (using the hashtag #TheList) on your social media channels to help grow the community. Aby and I will also retweet all your posts via twitter if you mention us in your tweets!
  5. Finally, if you could please follow Mums’ Days  (Twitter, Facebook and Pinterest) and You Baby Me Mummy (Twitter, Facebook and Pinterest) that would be wonderful!
By adding your post to the linkup you are agreeing to be notified of subsequent linkups.

That’s it! Aby and I can’t wait to get started, and we pledge to comment on all linked posts that meet the rules. So please do link in and we’ll get showing your posts some love xxx

Welcome back to another week of #TheList, which is a wonderful linky (if last week is anything to go by!) that I am hosting with my lovely friend, Abi, from You Baby Me Mummy (do hop over to see Abi’s list and say hello there).

Abi and I have decided to feature 3 of our favourite posts from the previous week’s Linky as a little thank you and shout out for being awesome…I didn’t realise how hard this would be! But I’ve narrowed it down to…

Running Lavender’s Top 10 Beauty Tips (secrets from someone who knows!)

The DADventurer’s 5 reasons I know I’m a Dad (great to know that my suspicions of what was going on in Mike’s head were true!)

Mummy B’s Autumn Bucket List (love a reason to write to goals/lists!)

On to my list!

Real life

This week has been what I would call BUSY.

1. It was Gabby’s birthday weekend, so that was filled with cake, pressies and little parties and loads of tea and washing up.

2. I had a ‘quiet’ day with Reuben on Tuesday (which nearly killed me, as R doesn’t do quiet) and he’s also learnt to climb out his cot and hates bedtime. Fun times!

3. Then it’s been all over the place. From viewing 7 houses (this time last week we weren’t even considering moving) to being called into Metro Radio to be interviewed for this News Story, which was aired on Thursday. I’ve also been out twice this week (including to the Jules B A\W launch last night to get my #fblogger on)! Unheard of.

The List week 2 - quiet in the park

Blog Life

The highlight has to be being invited to Metro Radio to give my opinion because I was a parenting blogger. I tend to shy away from controversy but after some cajoling from Mike I was ready. It was incredibly exciting, I managed not to sound like a total idiot and my follow on article, here, sparked some really interesting conversations on twitter.

Inspiration

Katie and her incredible (and timely regarding the above) piece published on Mumsnet about emotional abuse.

Zaz always gets me thinking about parenting and looking after my cubs and this is her latest to strike a chord.

And Angie‘s got me pining for more time with my best pal!

Real Life

This week has been a mixture of fun and hard work!

It was back to normal on Monday in terms of child care and Reuben didn’t bat an eyelid at being left for the first time in almost a month, much to my surprise! I was very relieved as I thought it was going to be a tough week in that respect. On Tuesday Reubs was a proper star – he ate scrambled egg AND pasta (1 for breakfast, 1 for lunch – not combined. Yak!), both of which he’s refused for months. And, to celebrate he fell asleep on the sofa mid play. Unheard of. He has never done this.

The List 1 - 5 things I've learnt about baking cakes: http://mumsdays.com/the-list-1-baking-cakes/

But probably the most eventful thing of the week was making a cake for Gabby’s 8th Birthday today. I never bake but I finally mustered up the courage to bake a cake. Here are 5 things I learnt about baking cakes today…

  1. It’s not as hard as you think – it’s hard to make it nice and a bit of a faff, but generally to make something that looks the part, it’s a piece of…er…cake!
  2. You don’t have to use the specified shaped tin in the recipe (so if it says a loaf tin, you could use a round one if that’s all you’ve got)
  3. If the recipe you’re using is for a bigger cake tin than you’ve got, fill up your tin and just use the remaining mixture for cupcakes
  4. Don’t drop your freshly baked cake on the floor – it won’t survive
  5. Don’t keep the smashed up cake around the kitchen while you make the second as you’ll end up eating half of it

Blog life

My blogging isn’t yet back up to speed, I’ve struggled with inspiration and so haven’t published as often as I would. Honestly, having a holiday has done nothing for my brain power!! Thankfully, I’ve had some amazing guest posts, most notably this post about Unplanned Pregnancy (thank you, you know who you are xxx), which was such an honour to publish.

I also received a beautiful teal pashmina (it’s soft… 90% cashmere, 10% silk baby!) in the post from Jules B along with an invite to their A\W launch event, which was the loveliest surprise! I’m soooo excited to be going to the launch with my young, stylish #fblogger friends. I’m going to pretend to be sophisticated for a night, ha! WTF does one wear to such an event though?!

Inspiration

I’ve been lusting over a few blogs this week… namely this blog is awesome and so prolific. I particularly loved this article about Joan Rivers who sadly died last night.

I also really liked this post about the Kind Campaign some gorgeous ladies who are trying to stop women (aimed at schools but it could do with reaching into adulthood!) being shit to each other.

Hope you’ve had a great week! What have you been up to? And do you have any other lessons for me with regards to baking cakes?!

Do leave your comments below, I love to read them xxx

I’m linking in with my new linky, The List, which I’m co-hosting with You Baby Me Mummy, The Week That Was Captured with Make Do and Push, and #AllAboutYou with Zaz from Mama and More. xxx

It’s true! Mums’ List has had a full makeover to become The List AND, the more exciting news is that from now on Aby, from You Baby Me Mummy, will be my fabulous co-host!

Introducing The List! A fabulous linky for bloggers to show off all your List Posts!

Now, before you lovely Mums’ Listers get too upset about the development of this lovely linky (which it really is, so thank you to everyone who has taken part over the last 27 weeks making it such a lovely community), if you would like to, you can continue to link to The List in the Mums’ List style of Real life // Blog life // Inspiration (read here for more information on what Mums’ List was).

So why the development? Aby and I felt that we really ought to expand the linky to let non-mums know they can join in too… By specifically replacing the word “mum” from the link title we think it goes a long way to doing that! So on to what The List is and the rules…

29 Aug, 2014

I’ve completely lost track of which week we’re on for Mums’ List! I think it’s 26…anyway, thank you SOOOOOO much to Aby from You Baby Me Mummy for her wonderful hosting while I was on my holidays – she did a much better job than I ever do!!

Real Life

Well, after the world’s best holiday followed by worst day coming home on Monday that finally ended at 1am when we walked through our front door, this weeks been lovely but with the inevitable tinge of sadness to not be on holiday anymore!

We had a wonderful day on Wednesday with lots of my family – mum, brother, aunty, cousin’s son, and my gorgeous nephew and his mums, who were visiting for the week. It has reminded me how I just don’t see them enough, this beautiful little boy is growing in a flash and he’s not going to know his cool aunt!!

We went to Belsay Hall and Castle, which I’d never been to before, and it was absolutely stunning. If you get chance to go before the end of the summer, do. The last of the flowers were blooming and, as we ate our picnic in the sun, I had this amazing feeling of the final glimpse of warmth before Autumn sets in…gosh I am feeling a little melancholic! Anyway, Reuben loved running around with the big boys. He probably ran about 2 miles, I’ve never seen anything like it!

Mums' List 26

Blog life

Ironically, despite working really hard prior to setting off to make sure I had enough blog posts to continue blogging everyday while we were away, fully expecting to hit the ground running when I got back, I’ve really struggled to get in to it. So since being back and I haven’t managed to blog daily anyway!

I’ve come back feeling guilty. Guilty for being a rubbish friend, sister, wife, mum because I spend so much of my time, energy and brain power on my work. I think the main thing I’ve realised since being away is that when it comes to blogging I’m not focused enough. I fanny about, which takes up a lot of time! I need to work on being more efficient and better time management. I think I say that every week, don’t I?!

Inspiration

My lovely friends and family who I’ve been neglecting…I can change, I promise! xx

Your Turn!

How has your week has gone? Please do link in your lists (or any other list posts you’ve written this week)!
