time flies when you're being a mum

1st time in the pool

10 Feb, 2019

We took Nancy swimming for the first time yesterday. It brought back so many memories of baby swimming with Reuben and our lovely mates! Here’s a video from waaaaay back…

Baby Swimming for the first time

Firstly, it was a last minute thing so we had to rush about Hexham looking for a swimming costume. In the end Tesco came up trumps. Although the smallest size they had was 9-12 months it was fine and it will do until she’s, well 12 months. Score!

Secondly, I didn’t want to go in. I totally get that my body is awesome and has done amazing things and continues to as I feed Nancy… buuuuuut, that doesn’t mean I want to squeeze said body into a cossie and parade around my local pool just yet.

In the end I did and it wasn’t so bad. My cossie wasn’t as tight as I feared and once I was in the water my boobs looked way better. Screw you gravity!

We live in the middle of nowhere so our local pool is in a hotel where a) there are seats around the outside and b) you don’t look like a weirdo if you take a white dressing gown – which I did.

Nancy loved swimming, which I wasn’t surprised about as she’s a big bath fan but its the getting out bit that’s always a struggle. Which is where the seats and dressing gown came into their own. After Nancy had been in for 25 mins she lost her sh*t the second we got out!

I popped on my dressing gown and sat by the edge of the pool feeding her while Mike and Reuben carried on playing. It worked out perfectly!

does your little one like swimming?

and how do you work the getting out routine to avoid any loosing of sh*t? I’m not sure I’ve be brave enough to take both kids on my own just yet for that reason! Do share your secrets below or over on the Mums’ Days Facebook Page or Instagram.

Bunny Onesie up for grabs...

08 Mar, 2016

After the huge success of the Valentines Competition with The All in One Company, I have cheekily asked if they would also like to do an Easter 2016 competition with us and they have kindly said YES!

The All in one company Easter Bunny Onesie Competition

I am still completely in love with my onesie and although Spring may be nearly here, I can’t see me not putting it on in the early hours (thank you, Reuben, for the unwanted wake up call) for quite some time yet!

And, with an early Easter, what could be better than seeing your little ones running around collecting eggs in a cosy bunny onesie?! I can’t wait for Reuben’s to arrive, I’m already planning a special video to show it off!

Win your very own Easter 2016 All-in-One!

In the meantime, for your chance to win your very own easter bunny onesie (up to £100 to spend on your design – and it doesn’t have to be a bunny if you’d prefer something else!) please enter the competition below.

Bridgestone Press Trip - Part 2

03 Feb, 2016

Yesterday I shared a post about what this trip to Monaco and Cannes with Bridgestone Tyres was all about, which you can read here: Bridgestone DriveGuard.

This is part 2 which is all about the more social side – the pinch yourself stuff – because (and I do believe I said this a few times while we were there)…

There ain’t no party like a Bridgestone party!

I’ve put together this little video from my personal highlight, Driving around the French Riviera in Classic Cars!

From McDonalds in Monaco to Classic Cars in Cannes…here’s what we got up to! *warning it’s selfie heavy*

After a fun flight with a bunch of UK bloggers and journalists, we arrived at our humble abode – The Fairmont Hotel in Monaco, which, if you’re a fan of the Grand Prix, is on the hairpin.

The views were spectacular so we got out for a spot of photography and a quick bite to eat (this is the McDonalds bit – we didn’t want to peak to early later on!).

And took a walk along the promenade as the sun was setting.

This is the view back towards our hotel – doesn’t it look like something from Tracy Island?!

After our stroll, we had a little time to enjoy the facilities and get ready for the evening’s entertainment.

We were escorted along the same promenade to an exclusive Nightclub and Restaurant, with stilt walkers to greet us and a champagne reception. We were then placed onto tables for a 3 course meal – I chose the King Prawn Caesar Salad and the Tuna, and Aby chose the Goats Cheese Tart and the Veal.

It was all gorgeous and accompanied by so much wine I can’t really remember pudding!

Then we went to the Monaco Casino, which is insanely ornate and, while the others had a flutter, I propped up the bar with Robin, the Managing Director for Bridgestone Europe, because neither of us can see the point of gambling!

Then when I got back to my room, I found a little present with a clue to what was in store for the following day, which you can read all about here.

After the Bridgestone big unveiling event at the Chateau, we made our way to our next humble abode (ha!), the Martinez in Cannes.

Again, we had a little time before we needed to be ready for dinner so we took a very quick walk along the promenade – mainly because I really fancied a Martini in the Martinez to celebrate my Tyre win!

Look this view.

After a long night in some of the finest places in Cannes (a gorgeous family run restaurant and an open bar back at the hotel, need I say more), the next morning we were greeted with a looooong line of fabulous cars. I have never seen anything like it and I used to work in Transport.

My driving partner, Steve, and I could literally pick a car and then we drove in convoy up the mountain to an amazing viewing point…wait until you get a load of this!

15 Degrees, beautiful sunshine, an MG…I felt like Grace Kelly!

At this point we could swap cars so Steve and I went for this little number…

After our driving experience we did a spot of cooking, then it was off for lunch in the glorious sunshine looking out over the bay. We had a few hours to relax before our flight and then it was homeward bound.

So that was our press trip in a nutshell!

Have you ever been to Monaco or Cannes?

I’d love to hear about what you got up to in the comments below. Or come and join the conversation over on the Mums’ Days Facebook Wall!

If you could have dinner with any writer (at a restaurant – cooking for these people would be too stressful!), who would it be? At the top of my list would have to be the uber prolific and insanely talented duo that is Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler, of The Gruffallo fame and Stick Man, which is released on DVD today.

Their collaborative projects are just spellbinding and generations of kids are growing up enchanted by their beautiful and imaginative creations.

Stick Man on DVD - enjoying this children's story by Julia Donaldson and Alex Scheffler brought to life

Stick Man DVD

The animated movies of The Gruffalo, The Gruffalo’s Child and Room on the Broom (which have collectively won a cacophony of awards) are firm favourites in this house (- so well made. If I ever write a kids book these are the only people who will be allowed to touch it!).

When I discovered that Stick Man had been given the Hollywood treatment and was the Christmas Day special…well, I was really looking forward to it!! (more…)

We were recently invited to review the Oxelo B1 Scooter and as Reuben has never had a scooter I jumped at the chance.
